Everything you need to know about your car’s maintenance schedule

What is a Manufacturer's Maintenance Schedule?

A maintenance schedule is the routine maintenance that the manufacturer recommends specifically for your car model in order to ensure the optimal performance and safety of your vehicle. The schedule is usually displayed in a table in the maintenance section of your Service Manual and it lists the maintenance items to be performed at various mileage intervals.

Why is performing scheduled maintenance important?

Performing scheduled maintenance keeps your car running well and more importantly, safely. Staying on top of routine maintenance also helps reduce the cost of car ownership. By maintaining critical parts regularly, you can avoid large, expensive repair jobs. For example, rotating your tires with each service helps reduce uneven wear and tear on your tires and extend their lifetime.

What are the most common maintenance items?

While the service intervals (time between oil changes, for example) may vary between different car brands, there are some common themes across all car makes and models. The most common routine maintenance items are:

  • Engine oil & oil filter changes
  • Tire rotations
  • Filter replacement
  • Brake inspections
  • Hoses & Belts inspections
  • Fluids inspections
  • Wiper blade replacements
